The Legal Bit · Terms

The rules of the road,
before you go and do something silly.

Last updated May 19, 2026

We would dearly love to live in a world where a friendly handshake and a shared love of old metal were enough. We do not live in that world. We live in a world where somebody, somewhere, will eventually try to sue us because their barn-find Cortina caught fire and they had once read a comment on our website suggesting that brakes are nice. So, with regret, here are the terms. They are mostly common sense, written down.

Section 01

Agreement

These terms form a binding contract between you and AUTODYSSEY Ltd ("we", "us"). You agree to them when you create an account, browse the site, buy something, or otherwise use the service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. We will not be offended.

Section 02

Your account

You must be at least sixteen years old to hold an account. You agree to provide accurate information when you register, keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly if you suspect somebody else is using your account. You are responsible for anything that happens through your account until you tell us otherwise.

Section 03

Your content

Photos, build notes, stories, comments, listings, and anything else you post all belong to you. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, format, and (where you have made the content public) show that content as part of the service. This licence ends when you remove the content, save for backup copies we keep for a reasonable period and any copies others have already saved or quoted under fair use.

You confirm that you have the right to post what you post, that it is not stolen, and that it does not defame the bloke who sold you the car.

Section 04

What you must not do

The list is shorter than you might fear. Please do not:

  • Post anything illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or designed to defraud another user.
  • Upload malware, scrape the site at industrial scale, or try to break into bits you are not meant to be in.
  • Pretend to be somebody you are not, including us.
  • Use the service to spam, market without invitation, or run an unrelated business off the back of ours.
  • Reverse-engineer the platform or republish substantial parts of it elsewhere without permission.
  • Misuse the Vault, the Lineage chain, or the Ancestry record to put falsified provenance on a vehicle. The whole point of the system is that it is honest.

We may remove content, suspend accounts, or terminate the relationship for serious or repeated breaches, and we may do so without warning if the matter is urgent.

Section 05

Buying things from the shop

Prices on the shop are inclusive of VAT where applicable and exclusive of shipping unless otherwise stated. An order is only accepted when we send you a dispatch confirmation. If we have priced something wrongly (a Heritage tote bag is not, in fact, two pence) we will tell you and offer the option to cancel or proceed at the correct price. Returns and refunds follow your statutory consumer rights and the details set out on the Shipping & Returns page.

Section 06

The Vault and your records

The Vault stores records about vehicles you own or have a legitimate interest in. You confirm that information you add is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Records are append-only by design, so corrections are made by adding a new record rather than by quietly editing the past. The full architecture, including Tenure and Lineage, is described in our documentation.

Section 07

Subscriptions

Paid tiers renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You may cancel at any time from your account settings, and the subscription will run until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not pro-rate refunds for partial months, save where the law requires us to.

Section 08

AI features

The site offers AI-assisted features (Audie, Murphy, image-class C generation, and so on). These are tools, not oracles. They make suggestions, sometimes brilliant ones, sometimes confidently wrong. You are responsible for any decision you take on the basis of their output. If an AI feature tells you the head bolts on your engine torque to "yes, definitely", please ring a mechanic.

Section 09

Third-party services and links

We sometimes link out to other websites and integrate with third-party services. We have no control over what they do, charge, or display, and we accept no responsibility for them. Their terms apply to your use of them.

Section 10

Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, error-free, or that any user-supplied content is accurate. Restoring a car is a physical activity carried out in the real world, with sparks and oil and heavy objects suspended overhead. Anything you read on this website is informational. The responsibility for what you do in your garage is yours.

Section 11

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be limited by law. Subject to that, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the twelve months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim and (b) one hundred pounds sterling. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit, loss of goodwill, or loss of data not caused by our gross negligence.

Section 12

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against any third-party claim arising from content you post, your breach of these terms, or your misuse of the service, including reasonable legal costs.

Section 13

Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if continuing to provide the service to you would expose us or other users to unreasonable risk. We will give you notice and a chance to put things right first where it is reasonable to do so.

Section 14

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives at this URL and the "last updated" date at the top will tell you when it last changed. Material changes will trigger an email to account holders at least thirty days in advance. Your continued use of the service after the effective date counts as acceptance.

Section 15

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute that cannot be sorted out by a polite email will be heard by the courts of England and Wales, save that consumers retain the right to bring proceedings in the courts of their own country of residence.

Section 16
